This year’s Comic Con Prague brought Red Dwarf fans a double treat once again. Two guests closely tied to the show arrived in Prague – actor Danny John-Jules and series co-creator Rob Grant.
Guests Danny John-Jules, known to fans as The Cat, returned to Comic Con after five years. Over the first two days of the event, fans had the chance to take photos with him, get autographs, or meet him at a meet & greet. Just like his character, Danny charmed everyone with his style and charisma. Unlike the second Red Dwarf guest, who visited the Czech Republic for the first time, Danny has been here many times – and not just for Comic Con.
For the first time in Comic Con Prague’s history, the event welcomed a Red Dwarf guest who wasn’t an actor or voice actor. Co-creator of the show, Rob Grant, came to Prague, giving fans the chance to purchase a photo with both Danny and Rob, or get their Red Dwarf or other related items signed by Rob on Friday and Saturday. After his Saturday panel, Rob headed to Komar’s Bookstore booth, where he signed for fans and also signed several copies of the Red Dwarf omnibus, which then went on sale.
Panels On Friday evening, Danny and Rob took part in a panel titled So What Is It Talk Show, recall about the early days of Red Dwarf.
Saturday continued with a panel called Soul depths of Red Dwarf, where Rob shared his memories of the show’s beginnings, its history, and also discussed the (we hope) upcoming Red Dwarf: Titan project, giving fans a glimpse of what might lie ahead.
The Red Dwarf programme finished on Saturday evening with Danny’s talk show Illegaly Good-Looking Q&A. Topics included motorbikes, Brno, and, of course, memories from the filming of Red Dwarf. There was even a question about the new Red Dwarf special. But as Danny admitted, the cast knows just as little as the fans.
Fan Programme The beginning of the first two days at the con was made more fun with Red Dwarf-themed workshops where attendees could make their religious hats and express their beliefs about which colour is the true one.
On Saturday afternoon, our writer Barbucha gave a talk titled Red Dwarf: To Ganymede and Titan, covering the series‘ history, behind-the-scenes, and the latest Red Dwarf news.
After the talk, fans in costumes gathered at the main staircase for a group photo.
